Maria takes Liz and Alex to a fortune teller in Hondo, New Mexico so they can have all of their questions about their relationships with the aliens answered. Madame Vivian tells Alex that he is a wonderful friend to Isabel , but he will never have a carnal relationship with her. She tells Maria her relationship with Michael will not endure. Maria says she's not looking to tie the knot - she just wants to know if they at least have a few months. Madame Vivian tells her they have 48 hours. Madame Vivian tells Liz that Max is very important - a leader. Liz tells her he has this whole other destiny that doesn't include her. Madame Vivian tells Liz that he chooses love - he chooses her. Liz says it's impossible. Madame Vivian assures her that the cards are correct - she marries her true love - she has happiness. Liz goes home and stands in front of her mirror and practices marriage vows. Max from the future appears on the terrace outside her window. At first she doesn't believe it's really Max. She thinks it's some other alien - a shape shifter pretending to be Max. She tells him there is no such thing as time travel because it goes against every rule of physics and reality. He explains that the granolith has an enormous amount of power and they were able to modify it for the use of time travel. She still doesn't believe him. He tells her that if her were a shape shifter he wouldn't be able to tell the future. He tells her that in about ten seconds he will appear beneath her window to sing to her accompanied by a mariachi band. He tosses red roses up to her and remembers that she prefers white roses and changes the color so that they are white by the time Liz catches them. Sure enough Max appears and sings in spanish to her. Future Max tells Liz that he'd spent a week learning the lyrics. Liz asks future Max why he's here. He explains that he can't tell her too much - only what she needs to know. Fourteen years from now they are taken over by their enemies - the entire earth is taken over. He tells her he needs her to help him change the future. No one can know he's there, especially not his younger self.
Michael wonder's what's up with the new waitress chick Courtney. He tells Maria he doesn't trust her. She's another new face in town who arrived this summer after the signal went out. Her picture was in Whitaker's office and she's always hanging around him and giving him these looks. Maria says Courtney wants what's in his pants. Michael tells Maria that just might work.
Liz asks future Max why he just doesn't go to younger Max directly. He tells her it's complicated. If he encounters himself in another time period, they would both be destroyed. He tells Liz the next few days are critical. It was during this time that he and Liz became inseparable. The closer that they grew, the worse things got with Tess and she left Roswell. It turns out Tess was important to their survival - the four of them made a complete unit each with special powers. Liz asks why he doesn't just go to Tess so that she and the younger Max can get together. Future Max tells Liz she's the one he trusts. He needs her to help him fall out of love with her.
Michael takes Courtney home and she invites him inside. He asks her why she came to Roswell. She tells him she was attracted to the whole alien thing and the sightseeing has exceeded her expectations. She kisses him. He stops and tells her she needs to shower. He explains that he's a germphobe and that a clean girl is a sexy girl. She tells 'Mikey G.' that she'll play any game he wants to. Michael looks through her things while she's in the shower. He opens up a cabinet filled with bottles of body lotion. Maria stops by. He asks her what she's doing there. She tells him she's investigating Courtney. He tells her that he's investigating Courtney. Maria tells Michael she found a picture of him, Max and Isabel with his face circled in Courtney's locker at work. Courtney yells from the bathroom for Michael to put on some music. Michael tells Maria that he has the situation under control and that she should get out of there. She warns him not to lay one hand on Courtney. He tells her no one's laying anything on anyone. Courtney yells from the bathroom and tells Michael that he's an amazing kisser. Maria gasps and smacks Michael in the head. She tells him he obviously came there for two reasons. Courtney appears wrapped in a towel. Maria tells Michael that they are done and leaves. Michael tells Courtney he's leaving.
Tess complains to Kyle that she hates this life and she's not going to sit around waiting for Max to realize his destiny. She says she didn't ask to be his mate and they can figure things out for themselves. Kyle tells her she looks really great when she's pissed. He tells her he feels lots of energy coming from her. He tells her in order to trim the lamp of wisdom, they must attend to their bodily needs. She tells him she's got a lamp that needs some serious trimming. They are about to kiss when the doorbell rings. It's Liz. She wants to help Tess with Max. Tess tells her she's not stupid. She knows Liz hates her - they all do. Liz tells her she's sick of living this way. She can't move on with her life unless she gets Max to move on.
Max meets Tess at the Crashdown Cafe. Liz and future Max spy on them from across the street. Liz asks him if they got married. He tells her he can't talk about it, but then tells her they eloped at age 19. She tells him 19 is young - too young. He says he thought so too but she told him that Romeo and Juliet were even younger than they were. They drove to Vegas and got married at the Elvis chapel. He tells her they had a great wedding. Maria, Alex, Michael and Isabel met them there. Liz says that if their plan works she won't have that day. He tells her all of the events that lead to who he is in the future will be different and he - this particular future Max - will cease to exist. Tess slips up in conversation and mentions Liz. Max realizes he's been set up. He notices Liz across the street and leaves Tess sitting there. Future Max hides. Max confronts Liz about trying to get him and Tess together. He kisses her. They both have flashes. Max says he felt it and he knows she felt it too. He tells Liz that Tess can never take her place. Max tells her he has tickets to see Gomez in concert and asks her to go with him. Liz tells him she can't go out with him ever again. She asks him to stop. He tells her he can't.
Future Max tells Liz they never made it to the Gomez concert. That night their relationship was cemented - they made love. Liz doesn't believe him. Liz tells him she has no intention of making love to him or anyone else at this stage in her life. She tells him that making love to him is the farthest thing from her mind. She tells him she doesn't even have protection. He tells her that he did. She tells him that she doesn't care what happened in his reality and that she's not making love to anyone until she is ready. He reminds her that he's just telling her what happened. He tells her they have to change what happened. He tells her she has to do something before it's too late.
Max is working out in his room. Liz knocks on Max's window. He lets her in. She asks him to put on a shirt. She tells him not to say anything. She reminds him that the story of Romeo & Juliet is actually the Tragedy of Romeo & Juliet because they die. She says she thinks that people think it's such a romantic play because they don't know what it's like to be put in that position. She tells him there isn't anything romantic about your life being at risk. She tells him his life will always be dangerous and her life will only be in danger if she's with him. She tells him she wants to be in love with normal boys, she wants to see her 21st birthday, she wants to have a wedding day and have children. She tells him she wants her children to be safe and if he truly loves her he'll let her go. She tells him that she may love him but she doesn't want to die for him.
Future Max's right hand begins to fade. He thinks Liz's speech may have worked.
Max asks Maria what she thinks about his relationship with Liz. Maria says he should give Liz up because it's all leading nowhere. Max says he can't help it. He loves Liz. Maria tells him he's hopeless.
Future Max's right hand takes complete form again. He tells Liz it didn't work and that she'll have to think of something else. Liz tells him she doesn't want to hurt Max anymore. She says it was so hard to tell him that she didn't want to die for him knowing that he's the only reason she's alive right now. She tells him that he's got to come up with another plan. She wants him to go to someone else. He tells her that just before he came to her Michael had died in his harms. Isabel had been killed just two weeks before. He tells her she has to find a way. All of their lives depend on it. She asks what she can do that 's going to make him turn away from her.
Maria tells Liz that Madame Vivian was right about her and Michael. When she caught Michael with Courtney, she'd never felt so awful and there's nothing that he could ever do to make up for it.
Liz enlists Kyle to help her turn Max away from her. Future Max doesn't like the idea - he can't stand to see Liz with Kyle. Liz undresses in her bathroom. Kyle asks if he's to take off his boxers. Liz tells him that undergarments will remain on. Future Max tells Liz that he's there if Kyle tries anything. She tells him that she has everything under control. Liz comes out of the bathroom wrapped in a towel. She reminds Kyle that they're not actually going to do anything and there is to be no tongue when they kiss. Kyle agrees. He tells her he's there to help - his body is merely a vessel. She gets into bed with Kyle then removes towel.
Alex stops by Michael's place. He asks if Michael has any idea of what he's done to Maria. Michael tries to explain that it was all a misunderstanding. Alex punches Michael in the jaw and knocks him to the floor. Courtney shows up. Alex leaves. She asks Michael if he's okay. They kiss. Michael lifts up her shirt and peels skin from her back. He says 'You're a skin.' Courtney runs. Michael attemtpts to stop her with his powers, but only blows up his tv set instead. Courtney jumps through Michael's window to escape.
Kyle wonders what Max could have done to piss Liz off so bad that she'd want to use Kyle to hurt him. Liz tells him she really doesn't want to talk about why she's doing this. Kyle says they have something in common. They're the only two people who have died and were brought back by an alien. He asks her if she feels different. She says she does. She asks Kyle if he saw things - flashes - when Max healed him. Kyle says he didn't. Kyle says since he healed him he keeps getting flashes of Max naked. Liz laughs. Kyle says it feels good to make her laugh again. Max comes to Liz's window and sees them in bed together. He stands there for a moment in disbelief and then walks away.
Tess meets Max in the park. She asks if he's okay. He says 'no.' She asks if he wants to talk about it. He says 'no.' Tess asks Max if he wants her to leave. He says 'no.'
Future Max tells Liz that he's fought a thousand battles, but watching her do that was the hardest thing he's ever had to do. He tells her it's probably for the best. He says Kyle is turning out to be a great guy and maybe it would be best for her to be with a human. She tells Future Max he is the love of her life and everyone else is always going to be second best. Max tells her from now on the future is to be determined. Like he always told her - we create our own destiny. She asks him to dance with her. She tells him she wants to have her wedding dance. They dance close for a few moments, he spins her around and then disappears into thin air. Liz is left standing alone.
