Splendor

Michael and Maria are spying on the Roswell police station where Laurie is being held for questioning by FBI Agent Duff. Michael looks at the photo of Laurie's grandfather in 1935. Maria asks him if he realizes that the guy more that just looks like him - he is Michael. He was Michael's donor - Michael's human side is Laurie's grandfather. She says that in some weird and twisted way, Laurie and her relatives are Michael's family. Michael says it figures - he's finally found a family member and she's a complete wack job.

FBI agent Duff pleads with Laurie to tell her everything she knows the man who kidnapped her so that she can protect Laurie from him and stop him from hurting someone else. Laurie tells her that they're aliens. Laurie suddenly screams and jumps up out of her chair in terror. She screams that 'they're' close - they're on their way there. She tries to escape. Agent Duff manages to restrain Laurie until officers enter the room and take over. They strap her down and put her into an ambulance to transport her back to the Pinecrest mental hospital. Michael and Maria follow the ambulance.

Laurie managed to get a hold of an ink pen before being restrained and uses it to unfasten the buckles on the restraint. She wacks the attendant over the head with metal equipment and goes to the front of the vehicle and grabs the steering wheel. The driver struggles to regain control. The ambulance crashes and turns over on it's side. Michael and Maria jump out of the car. Michael helps Laurie out of the ambulance. Terrified, Laurie begins to hit him. Michael assures her he's there to help and he won't hurt her. The masked gunman from Fraizer woods appears and begins shooting at them. Michael tells Laurie she can either come with them or stay there and get killed. Michael uses his powers to blow up the shooters car.

Michael calls Max and Isabel. He tells them that Laurie is crazy - she tried to jump out of the car 3 times while it was moving. The story is all over the news and a countywide search for Laurie is under way. Isabel tells Michael they can't come back to Roswell right now. Max looks at the crystals under a microscope. He tells Isabel he thinks they're dealing with some kind of alien bacteria. At the Crashdown, Isabel tells Alex and Liz that Michael and Maria will be gone for a couple of days so they'll need to cover for them. Maria's cousin Sean shows up asking where Maria is. Liz lies and says she doesn't know. Sean tells her Maria's mom Amy is losing it and wants to talk to Liz. Liz tells Isabel and Alex that she'll go and talk to Maria's mom and try to keep things from getting out of hand. Sean tells Liz he likes her top - he digs the midriff thing. Liz tells him to shut up.

Agent Duff questions a nervous Isabel. She asks Isabel how Sheriff Valenti knew Laurie Dupree was missing before a missing person's report was filed and how to find her buried underground in the middle of nowhere. Valenti won't say how he knew these things. The only link Agent Duff can find is Isabel and Max. They were seen several times during the investigation with the Sheriff and at the crime scene. Isabel tells her she lost her bike that week. Agent Duff tells her that still doesn't explain why they were at the cime scene with the Sheriff. She asks Isabel what the big secret is and why she can't be let in on it. Isable tells Agent Duff she's already answered these questions for Deputy Hansen. Agent Duff reminds Isabel that she lied to Hansen and if she lies to her - she's in deep trouble. Deputy Hansen escorts Grant Sorensen into the office. He shows Agent Duff a black riffle he found in the woods about a mile east of the crime scene.

Michael, Maria and Laurie stop to eat at the Roadside Café. Laurie announces that she has to go to the bathroom. Michael tells Maria to go with her. Maria refuses - there's only one stall and without a door. She tells Laurie that she's not her mommy and she's not her doctor, so there's no way she's going to hold her hand while she potties. She tells Laurie they have to establish a little trust. She reminds Laurie that they're trying to help her escape the evil aliens who want to bury her in the woods.

Maria's mom, Amy, tells Liz that Maria told her she went camping. She asks Liz why Maria would leave her long johns and other winter gear at home if she were really going camping in the middle of February. She tells Liz she considers her to be an extended member of the family and values the friendship she has with Maria, but she will become very violent with her if she doesn't tell her where Maria really is. Liz confesses that Maria is with Michael. Liz tells her they're just getting away, taking in the scenery. Amy confiscates Liz's phone so that the next time Maria calls Liz's phone, Amy can talk to her. She tells Liz that she won't be going anywhere until she gets her daughter back.

Laurie escapes from the Roadside Café. Michael and Maria find her walking alongside the road. Maria suggests Michael tell Laurie the truth. It's the only way to get through to her and to find out why he looks like Grandpa 1935 - Laurie is the key. Maria tells him to let Laurie in on the whole alien conspiracy thing and hope that it shakes something loose from the dusty corners of her brain. His second choice would be to form an emotional bond with Laurie. Michael asks what kind of psycho babble he has to tell her. Maria tells him she can't put the words into his mouth - it's got to come from him - from whatever organ he has sitting in for his heart. She tells him he's got to make sure Laurie knows she can trust him. Maria asks if he thinks he can handle it. He tells her he's not completely emotionally retarded - he has feelings. He goes over and tells Laurie that whatever she is to him - sister or cousin - she's the only family he's ever known and he doesn't want to let her go. He tells her that he know's she's scared to death of him, but he'd like for her to find some way to trust him. He tells her he's loyal and he'll never turn his back on her. She asks if he's her grandpa. Michael tells her he isn't, but he's like to meet him. Laurie tells Michael her grandpa is in Tucson, Arizona.

Max falls asleep at his desk. The crystals escape from the glass container, liquefy and cover his hand. Max removes his hand and the substance hardens again. Max covers it with a glass container.

Maria calls Liz's cell phone. Maria's mom answers. She asks Maria where she is. At first Maria lies and tells her mom that she's still in New Mexico, then fesses up and tells her they're on their way to Arizona. Her mom thinks they're going to get stoned and have sex. Maria tells her they're just being free spirits. Amy tells Maria to put Michael on the phone. She tells him to protect Maria and be kind to her. She tells him they will not get matching tattoos and he will not allow Maria to get piercings on any part of her body that cannot be shown in polite company. She warns him that if he has sex with Maria, she will hunt him down and kill him. She tells him to call her if he needs bail money. Sean tells Amy she should call the police. Liz assures her that Michael will take care of Maria. Sean says Michael is a mighty shady character. Liz says 'Look who's talking.' Sean says he isn't shady - just misunderstood. He tosses a pillow at Liz. She tells him to stop. He continues to toss pillows from the sofa at her. Liz picks up a pillow and warns him to stop. They start hitting one another with the pillows. Amy tells them she needs a drink and grabs her coat. She opens the door just as Max was about to knock. She leaves and Max walks in and finds Liz and Sean on the sofa. Liz is laughing while telling Sean to get off of her. She jumps up when she sees Max. Once Liz composes herself, Max tells her he needs her help with something science related.

Valenti goes to see Grant to try and settle their differences. Grant lunges at him, Valenti punches him in self-defense. A few seconds later Grant begs Valenti to stop and asks what he's doing. Valenti goes to see Agent Duff and tells her Grant is the kidnapper and he should be under surveillance. He thinks Grant may have a split personality. He tells her that when Grant lunged at him it was like he'd never seen him before, then a minute later he was back to his old self. Agent Duff tells Valenti that Grant found the gun used by the kidnapper and brought it to her. She rationalizes that if Grant were the kidnapper, he wouldn't be trying to help her solve this case.

Liz tells Max the crystals look like waterborne parasites. Max says that implies that they need something to feed on, however, they didn't affect him. He tells Liz he got the feeling he didn't taste too good to them. They also didn't react when Sheriff Valenti picked them up. Liz suggests there's something unique about Lori or her gravesite. Perhaps she has something the parasites are looking for. Liz calls Isabel to ask her to get some information from Grant about Frazier woods.

Michael, Maria and Laurie arrive at her grandfather's mansion. They find out that he died 7 years ago. Her aunt and uncle remind Laurie that she attended his funeral. Everyone is weirded out because Michael looks so much like Grandpa Dupree. Michael and Maria tell them about the kidnapping. They don't believe a word of it. Michael and Maria are given $50,000 to go away and escorted off the property. Michael asks what about Laurie. The uncle says they'll take care of her. Michael tells him there are people after her. Michael tells Maria he promised Laurie he'd take care of her and that's exactly what he's going to do.

Liz, Max and Isabel find out that the stream that passed under Laurie's gravesite flowed from the alien crash site at Pohlman Ranch. They wonder why someone would bury her so that the parasites could attack her. Liz wonders if the kidnapper is alien or human and how he knows about the parasites. She asks if the parasites are dangerous to normal people in Roswell. Isabel asks Max where they go from here. Max says he has no idea. Liz says they need help - she wishes they could just 'phone home.' Isabel remembers that Max told her about an alien at the summit in New York that reached out with his mind and possessed Brody's body. Isabel thinks they might be able to send a signal back through Brody. Isabel, Max and Liz convince Brody to allow Isabel to hypnotize him to try and remember what happened during his alien abductions. They explain that she has a gift. She tells him she's a little psychic. She tells him to relax, close his eyes and clear his mind. She touches him and Brody and Isabel's bodies go flying across the room in opposite directions. They hear a voice, Larek, coming from Brody telling them they shouldn't have done that because Brody's body was not prepared for communication and his heart has stopped. Larek says the heart may restart once he has released Brody. He asks them what they want. Max tells him they think some kind of parasite was released into the earth's ecosystem when their ship crashed 50 years ago. Larek asks if the gandarium from their ship escaped. Max tells him it looks like blue crystals. Larek tells them earth is in serious trouble, they're no longer safe there. He tells them to get off the planet now. Brody's body collapses. Max is about to heal Broady with his powers. Isabel tells him not to use his powers. Max saves Brody the conventional way with CPR. Brody sits up and asks what happened. Max tells him he fainted. Isabel apologizes to Brody.
