Valenti goes to the CrashDown and tells the gang there's been an accident - Alex is dead. Alex's car crashed head-on with a truck. They all go to the morgue where Alex's body has been taken. Valenti distracts the personnel. Max attempts to use his powers to bring Alex back, but it doesn't work. Everyone's devastated. They can't believe their friend is dead.
The next morning Valenti tells Kyle that he doesn't want him to remember the day as the day Alex died. He reminds him that Alex died yesterday. He wishes Kyle a happy birthday.
Isabel dreams that Alex is still alive. He tells her it was all a big mistake. Alex asks if she's made a decision about college yet. Isabel tells him she plans to stay and graduate with everyone else - she'd miss them too much. Alex tells her he'd miss her to. She tells him she doesn't want to be away from him anymore. Isabel's mom wakes her from the dream. She wakes up and realizes it was only a dream. Alex is not alive. Isabel blames herself for the accident. She tells her mom that if she hadn't called Alex he would have never gotten into the car. He was probably en route to the CrashDown to hang out with her. Her mother reminds her that it was an accident and it wasn't her fault. She says she wishes she had some kind of special power to make all of it go away. Isabel tells her special powers don't help.
Liz goes to view Alex's wrecked car. She looks inside and finds a photograph of Alex and his Swedish girlfriend,Leana. Alex's head has been cut out of the photograph. Later, she shows the photo to Maria and Michael. Maria can't believe Liz went to Alex's wrecked car. Liz tells her the photo means something.
Valenti and Hanson investigate the accident. The truck driver tells them Alex deliberately swerved into his lane for no reason. They find out that Alex's grades have been slipping. His teachers report that his grades have been slipping and he's been moody - cocky and aloof. The take-out delivery guy, Jerry, tells Valenti people are usually just pissed off if their food is cold when delivered. Alex acted like it was the end of the world. Hanson tells Valenti there's a pattern. Valenti tells him there's not.
Max tells Tess, there was so much blood - he wasn't prepared for it. He didn't want to touch Alex - his skin was so cold. There's a memorial at the high school. Students bring tons of flowers and photos. Maria asks who all of the people are. She says they didn't even know Alex - they weren't even his friends. It angers her that they're crying and praying and putting on a show as if they gave a damn about Alex when he was alive.
Isabel announces that she's graduating early, leaving Roswell in June and moving to San Francisco where she'll be attending college in the fall. Max asks when all of this happened. Isabel says she's been thinking about it for a while. She tells Max their Mom is okay with her decision. Max tells her this isn't the right time to be making snap judgments about things. She tells Max it's her life. He explains that he's not disputing that fact. Michael says it isn't a decision they have to make today. Isabel points out that it isn't a decision 'they' have to make - it's her decision.
The delivery guy, Jerry, is surrounded by students talking about his encounter with Alex. He says Alex was woozy and you could totally see it in his eyes - he was on his way out of this life. Liz interrupts and tells him she'd like to ask him some questions. She asks him what he remembers about his conversation with Alex. She tells him if he remembers anything else to contact her at the CrashDown.
Liz shows the photo to Valenti. He and Hanson are convinced Alex committed suicide. Liz refuses to believe that Alex would kill himself. She goes to visit Max. She tells him she doesn't want to be alone and asks if she can stay overnight. She tells Max about the police reports. Max says he'll talk to Valenti. Liz tells Max she saw him kiss Tess at the prom. He begins to explain. She tells him that she just wanted him to know that she saw him and she's okay with it. They've both decided to move on. She asks him to just always be her friend. He tells her she knows he will.
Michael stays with Maria and her mother. Maria's mom thanks Michael for staying with them. She says it's wonderful to see her daughter loved and he's welcome in their home anytime.
Isabel has another dream about Alex. She tells him she never should have called him that night. He holds her hands and reminds her that he called her that night. She tells him if he hadn't been involved with her he'd still be alive. He tells her if he were really here he'd tell her that she's full of crap. He tells her he'd better go because he's not making things any better for her. She begs him to stay. He reminds her that he's already gone and that she'll eventually wake up from this dream. She asks if she'll ever see him again. Alex says it depends on her. They kiss goodbye. She tells him that she loves him. He says he thinks they both know that he loved her too.
Maria tearfully sings 'Amazing Grace' at Alex's funeral. Liz is determined to find out what really happened. After the funeral, she asks Alex's dad if she can go sit in Alex's bedroom for a while. She picks up his bass and begins to strum. She looks around the bedroom for some kind of clue or piece of evidence. She asks for Alex's help. She picks up a book of Robert Frost poetry bookmarked with concert tickets to see Beth Orton. She reads a few lines of the poem 'Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening' -{ The woods are lovely, dark and deep. But I have promises to keep and miles to go before I sleep.} Liz calls everyone up to Alex's room. She tells them that the police report says Alex killed himself, but it's not true. Maria says of course it's not true. Max says that Valenti let him read the file, and now he's not so sure Alex didn't kill himself. Liz can't believe what Max is saying. She tells everyone she can prove it wasn't suicide. She tells them about the concert tickets she found. Alex bought them on the day he died - probably for him and Isabel. Liz tells the others that there's no way he could have committed suicide - You don't buy concert tickets on the day you kill yourself - you don't make plans for the future if you're not planning on having a future. Maria says Liz is right. Tess says concert tickets are pretty slim evidence. Maria tells Tess she doesn't know what the hell she's talking about. Michael says there's nothing to be gained with this argument one way or the other - they know Alex and the kind of guy he was - he'd never kill himself. Michael says it was an accident. Liz tells them it wasn't an accident - he was murdered. Max asks who could possibly want to murder Alex. Liz says she doesn't know yet - maybe somebody with a grudge against him or maybe an alien. Liz says if there is anything that they've learned in the last year and a half, nothing is ever what it seems. Isabel says that's not evidence - it's not proof that they had anything to do with what happened. Liz tells Isabel she can't deny that a key member of this conspiracy just died under very suspicious circumstances. Kyle says there's something not right about this. Max insists it was a traffic accident. He says there's nothing other worldly about it. Michael asks why an alien would want to kill Alex. Liz reminds them that there's an alien named Kivar who wants to bring Isabel back to their world. Isabel yells and accuses Liz of making things up. Max chimes in and tells Liz she doesn't know what the hell she's talking about - she doesn't know anything about Kivar or their world. Liz says they don't want to think that Alex was killed by an Alien because then it would mean that they -'the aliens' - are responsible. Max says 'Lets go' to Isabel, Tess and Michael. They leave Alex's room. Liz tells Maria and Kyle that she knows what she knows and she's going to find out the truth. She tells them she owes it to her friend. Kyle says,'Well, I guess it's us versus them.'
Liz is at the CrashDown looking at old photos and reminiscing about Alex. She cries. Jerry, the delivery guy shows up. He shows Liz Alex's credit card receipt. He says the company kicked it back because of the way he signed it - lots of ones and zeros. He asks if it means anything to her. Liz says it means 'I have promises to keep and miles to go before I sleep.'
