Liz is on a mission to find out what really happened to Alex. She contacts the Swedish Embassy in Washington, DC to find out the name and location of the building in the photo of Alex and Leanna. Later, she visits Sean to get some advise on breaking into the school. He reminds her that with his probation he's not allowed within 1,000 feet of the school. She assures him that she just wants some advice. He tells her he can't help her, but he ends up at the school with her anyway. He asks if she's trying to change one of her grades. She says, 'Something like that.' Sean patrols the hallway while Liz makes copies of Alex's files. They're caught by school security. When Deputy Hanson arrives Liz is let off the hook because she's known to be a 'good student.' The break-in doesn't go on Sean's record because of his aunt's (Maria's Mom) relationship with Valenti. Sean complains that he'll be doing community service until he's senile.
Liz attempts to contact the Olson's by phone. When she finally makes contact, she's told that no one with the name Olson lives there - the man who answers the phone says his name is Lind. He asks her not to call again.
Max tells Liz that she's raising suspicion by going around asking questions and contacting the Swedish Embassy. He tells her that he'll consider the possibility that Alex was killed by an alien if she'll consider the possibility that Alex killed himself. Liz assures him that Alex didn't kill himself. Max grabs Liz's arm and tells her she has to stop. He tells her she has nothing to lose and they (Max, Isabel, Michael & Tess) have everything to lose. She tells him to let her go.
Max tells Tess that life on their planet has always seemed like a dream to him. His life on Earth and being human has been the only thing that seems real. They go to the Roswell Observatory to look at the stars. Tess tells him that their world is out there - that's what's real. Their life on Earth is the dream. Max asks if that's the truth - when do they wake up. Tess says it's up to him.
Liz tells Maria that she can't find any information on the building behind Alex and Leanna in the photo. Maria begs Liz to stop and just be sad with the rest of them. She asks her to stop focusing on this thing that isn't even there. Liz asks if Maria believes her. Maria says she's sorry, but she doesn't. Maria says she doesn't even know Liz anymore.
Liz visits Sean. She thanks him for taking the heat at the school and tells him it was very heroic. Sean wants to hang out with her. Liz tells him she doesn't think she would be very good company - she's in the middle of something very huge right now and she needs to be really focused on it. Sean says he can't date or hang out with her. He asks if there's anything that he can do with her. She apologizes and says 'Not yet.' She heads toward the door, then turns around and kisses him before leaving.
Maria dreads the day Michael will have to leave her. She says that one day he's gonna get on a spaceship and go away. She says she can't lose anyone else - her heart can't handle it. Michael says he could leave in 2 years or 50 years, that's the choice they made to be together. He says he can give her now.
Max tries to persuade Isabel to go to Santa Fe State instead of SanFrancisco. He tells her she'll only be a few hours away and he thinks they can convince their parents to get her a car so that she can get to Roswell quickly if they need her. She tells him that she doesn't want to go to Santa Fe State. She shows him some of the recommendation letters she's received from teachers. He tells her that she's been indulged in planning her future for too long. He asks her not to make him the bad guy. She tells him he is the bad guy. He tells her she can't go. She tells him that every teacher in West Roswell High knows about it and their parents are thrilled about it. She tells Max to either jump on the band wagon or get out of her way. Max says he will do everything in his power to keep her in Roswell. He says he'll tell their parents she has a drug problem. He threatens to notify all of her teachers that she's cheated on all of her tests for the past three years. If she attempts to leave Roswell without his consent he will drag her back. Isabel crumples up one of her recommendation letters and uses her powers to burn it to ashes and lets it fall to the floor. She tells him that 'this' Isabel Evans is dead. She says 'You want to be a leader? See how it works without any followers.' She angrily walks away. A student comments that Isabel is so hot when she's angry. Without looking back, Isabel raises her hand and the boy is knocked to the floor and sent crashing into the lockers. Max helps the boy up.
Liz goes to the bank and withdraws $2,053.78 from her account to buy a plane ticket to Sweden. She waits along the side of the road for her taxi. Max sees her and drives over the median in the street to get to her. He tries to convince her to stay. He tells her that if she goes - their friendship is over. Liz says she guesses it's the price she'll have to pay. She tells him that someone murdered Alex and tried to cover it up. She tells Max to wake up.
Tess finds Max hanging out at the Observatory. He says that his whole life he wanted to be normal, human. He always thought his alien side was this bad thing that made him a freak - a monster. He says he hasn't been just hiding from the government or the law. He 's been hiding from himself. He says he doesn't know what's going on anymore. He tells her he's lost everyone. She takes his hand and tells him she'll be here for eternity. They kiss. He tells her he's ready to wake up now. They have sex for the first time in the Observatory.
Liz gets a call from the Swedish Embassy seconds before she is to board the airplane. She's told that the building that Alex and Leanna are standing in front of was torn down in 1994 - it no longer exists. Liz concludes that Alex never went to Sweden.
